renewable energy

Renewable energy is the key to a sustainable future and this is perfect for our forward-thinking eco-conscious businesses who wants to help future-proof their energy supply and reduce their carbon footprint.

In Yorkshire a number Hydropower schemes have been built with more planned, we we're involved in the LV electrical installation and energy storage which included HV/LV earth nests, main feeder pillars, cabling, building services.

THRYBERGH HYDROPOWER - RIVER DON

ERIC WRIGHT SCHEME

The Thrybergh hydropower plant is one of the largest low-head river hydro plants built in Yorkshire.

The £1.2m hydropower scheme will harness the flow of the River Don to power 2 Archimedes screws estimated to produce 1 million kilowatt-hours per annum for the next 75 years, the equivalent of 300 homes.

The scheme also sees the removal of the weirs obstacle to upstream salmon / trout passage, coarse fish and eels providing these species the means to migrate upstream for the first time in centuries.

Circle Control was engaged by Eric Wrights to undertake the LV electrical installation which consisted of Main power cabling, control and instrumentation cabling, containment systems, instrumentation, power distribution and building services.

The scheme was completed on time and to budget.

kirkthorpe weir hydropower - river calder

eric wright Scheme

The Kirkthorpe hydropower scheme is one of the largest low-head river hydro plant ever to be built in Yorkshire.

The £5.3m hydropower scheme will use the flow of the River Calder to power a single 500kW axial turbine that will generate around 2.3million units of carbon-free electricity per year, equivalent to the consumption of 800 households.

It will run 24/7, 10-11 months of the year, for at least the next 100 years. Salmon, eels and other migratory fish will be able to pass the hydro scheme’s weir safely, protected by the 33-tonne custom-designed inlet screen.

knottingley hydropower - river aire

eric wright Scheme

The Knottingley hydroelectric power plant is one of the largest low-head river hydro plant built in Yorkshire and the largest plant commissioned in England since the start of the century.

The £7.5m hydropower scheme will harness the flow of the River Aire to power a dual Kaplan turbine, half-mile down river from Ferrybridge coal-fired power station. The 500kW scheme will generate renewable electricity for a local flour mill and the local electricity grid 24/7, 11-12 months of the year for the next 100 years.

Circle Control was engaged by Eric Wrights to undertake the LV electrical installation which consisted of Main power cabling, control and instrumentation cabling, containment systems, instrumentation, power distribution and building services.

The scheme was completed on time and to budget.

Allerton waste recovery park
- dranco digestion plant

Allerton Waste Recovery Park is a facility that brings together state-of-the-art technologies.  The facility will reduce the amount of waste going to landfill in the county by 90%.  Diverting this waste away from landfill, it will generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 40,000 homes.

Circle was engaged to undertake the LV electrical installation of the Dranco Digestion Plant which was constructed by OWS with MCC control panels supplied and Installed by Total Automated Solutions.  The scheme involved interconnecting cabling between 17 No. MCC panels, containment, cabling to pumps, valves, instrumentation, distribution boards, building services, and site lighting, with parts of the installation within and on-top of the Digester which was ATEX certified and required our Compex trained operatives.

The scheme was completed on time and budget to the clients requirements.

anaerobic digestion
UTS BIOGAS SCHEMES AT home farm, westhome fARM AND WASHFOLD FARM

Circle was engaged to undertake the LV electrical installation on each site which consisted of both safe and hazardous area working.

The work consisted of heavy duty containment, power, control and instrumentation cabling to motors, valves, control stations, and installation of instrumentation for the Solid Feeding, Fermenter, Biogas Pumps, Substrate Separator, Gas Flare and M2CHP Station.

HOME FARM

A new 250kW AD plant was constructed at the farm.

WESTHOME FARM

A new 500kW AD plant was constructed at the farm.

WASHFOLD FARM

A new 200kW AD plant was constructed at the farm.

The digestion plants will supply the feedstock from existing farm wastes such as manure and slurry, supplemented with energy crops.

It will generate renewable electricity from the anaerobic digestion process, receiving income under the Feed in Tariff Scheme, with the electricity being used on the farm or sold to the National Grid.

The farm will have the benefit of free heat from the plant and the use of the digestate bi-product on the land as a bio-fertilizer.
